KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Mstrade) office in Toronto, Canada, has indicated that there are emerging trends in furniture designs intended for children. It said a number of new industry players have jumped on the bandwagon including Jump Kids World with furniture, accessories and toys for the two-to-eight-year-old set. "Their entry followed quickly behind Pottery Barn and a number of other children s boutiques including 3 Little Monkeys and Bookhou, an adult-focused design store, that offers children s décor with modern sensibilities," it said in a statement Monday. Last year, the total value of furniture and bedding imported by Canada was US$8.23 billion, with Malaysia being the sixth largest supplier with US$105.52 million and a 1.28 per cent market share, placing it second among Asean nations after Vietnam although the number of players in the industry was increasing. At a recent home furniture event, the Canadian Home Furniture Market 2012, African and Asian influences were seen to be on the rise although european designs continue to be preferred, the national trade promotion agency said. "We suggest that Malaysian manufacturers and exporters follow closely these design trends to stay competitive," it added.
