Kuala Lumpur, 29 May 2012 – I am pleased to announce the appointment of Y.B. Senator Tan Sri Amirsham Abdul Aziz as the new Chairman of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) effective May 29, 2012. Tan Sri Amirsham holds an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Malaya and is a Certified Public Accountant. He served as Chairman and held Directorships in various leading and private organisations. He served as President and CEO of Maybank, Malaysia's largest financial services group for a period of 14 years from 1994 to 2008. Following his retirement from Maybank in June 2008, Tan Sri Amirsham was appointed a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, in charge of the Economic Planning Unit and Department of Statistics (DOS). He held the position of Minister until April 9, 2009. Tan Sri Amirsham was also the former Chairman of the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC). With his illustrious background and vast experience, Tan Sri Amirsham's leadership will be invaluable to MIDA especially in the context of MIDA's efforts to assist the government's economic transformation efforts. YB Senator Tan Sri Amirsham succeeds Tan Sri Dr.Sulaiman Mahbob, whose term ended yesterday after more than two years of distinguished service.
