SMECorp Expects More SME Award Winners To Seek Listing

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama)-- SME Corporation, an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, expects 15 per cent of the recipients of the SMECorp Enterprise 50 Award to seek listing on Bursa Malaysia by end of 2015.
Chief Executive Officer Datuk Hafsah Hashim said todate, 56 or 10 per cent of the recipients have already been listed on the Main Market and ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia.
The SMECorp Enterprise 50 Award honours top Malaysian small-and-medium enterprises (SME) each year.
Listing will provide access to funding and assist the SMEs to leapfrog their extraordinary growth, she said during the book launch of Bursa Malaysia's "Practical Guide to Investing" which was officiated by Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
Mustapa said SMEs contributed about 31 per cent to the nation's gross domestic product (GDP) growth and accounted for about 19 per cent of total exports.
"The endorsement of phase two of the SME Master Plan by the National SME Development Council chaired by the prime minister on November 23, includes six high impact projects and strategies which amongst others aim to accelerate the SMEs contribution to GDP to 41 per cent by 2020 with 25 per cent contribution to export market and providing 62 per cent employment," Mustapa said during the launch.
