KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that the new Ministry of International Trade and Industry's (MITI) building here will provide an added attraction for multinational companies to invest in the country.
"This new building, worth RM342 million, with 31 floors and covers an area of ??three hectares (7.43 acres) will give a very positive impression on CEOs of multinational companies during their visit here," he said.
Najib said MITI was tasked with ensuring continuous macroeconomic development and inflow of investment into the country besides spurring Malaysia's exports, particularly from the private sector.
"MITI is also responsible in ensuring that small and medium enterprises continue to grow and position Malaysia as an international trade hub," he said when launching the MITI Tower, which is adjacent to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation building, in Jalan Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, here today.
Najib also thanked and congratulated International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and MITI's staff for defending Malaysia's interest in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.
"We have managed to conclude the agreement on our terms," he said.
Signed on Feb 4 in Auckland by 12 countries, including Malaysia, the TPP is set to expand markets, reduce tariff and promote freer trade.
