ASEAN Countries To Continously Reduce Non-tariff Measures

KOTA BAHARU, March 1 (Bernama) — Member countries will continuously reduce non-tariff measures and non-tariff barriers for freer intra ASEAN trade, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed Sunday. Mustapa said 69 non-tariff measures had been identified, and of this, 45 had been resolved. “We have decided to make more progress. We have identified many more and we will try to resolve those,” he told a press conference on the final day of the 21st ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat (AEM) here. The Economic Ministers also proposed to form a mechanism to deal with non-tariff measures in facilitating the movement of businesses within the region. “We are looking at a formal platform. We are talking to the European Union, to see how we can share best practices with them,” said Mustapa. AEM Makes Steady Progress Towards AEC Blueprint

KOTA BAHARU, March 1 (BERNAMA) — ASEAN economic ministers (AEM) today wrapped up their two-day retreat here with a steady progress made towards implementing the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint, particularly key measures prioritised by member states. As the regional grouping moves towards the tail-end of the AEC implementation, it has progressively removed trade obstacles such as Non-Tariff Barriers (NTB), which are a clear impediment towards the realisation of the AEC. “There are a number of highlights (achieved) during this retreat. KOTA BHARU: Negara anggota ASEAN akan terus mengurangkan langkah-langkah dan halangan bukan tarif untuk perdagangan yang lebih bebas di dalam pertubuhan serantau itu, kata Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed hari ini. Kota Bharu: Negara anggota Asean akan membincangkan lebih terperinci mengenai cadangan penubuhan Bank Mikro Asean bagi membantu perusahaan mikro mengembangkan perniagaan masing-masing. Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (Miti), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed berkata, Bank Mikro itu dijangka dapat memberi kemudahan kepada perusahaan mikro yang ingin meluaskan perniagaan dalam rantau Asean. Beliau berkata, operasi Bank Mikro Asean itu akan berlainan dengan bank sedia ada dalam kalangan negara anggota, namun ia akan mempraktikkan garis panduan yang sama.“Cadangan ini sudah diusulkan menerusi Majlis Penasihat Perniagaan ASEAN (ABAC). TNB Appoints Nine Strategic Suppliers

KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) — Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has appointed nine strategic suppliers from its Bumiputera Vendor Development Programme launched in 1994. Chief procurement officer, Syed Abu Hanifah Syed Alwi, said the period of appointment of the companies was for two years or equivalent to a procurement cycle. “After today’s appointments, we will continue to evaluate the performance of the nine companies. If they perform at the expected level then the period of appointment would be extended again. “In terms of time limit, if they continue to meet TNB’s requirements then I can say that the appointments would not have a set period of time,” he said after the appointment ceremony here today. Abu Hanifah said the selection of vendors as a strategic suppliers was based on the company’s merit, performance and qualifications. Asean Economic Ministers’ Retreat To Discuss Trade Facilitation: Mustapa

KOTA BAHARU, Feb 24 (Bernama) — The 21st ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat this weekend will discuss ways to facilitate trade among the region’s member nations, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

“We want to discuss trade barriers, how to facilitate two-way trade besides the benefits to be gained.

“With different standards, for example, if we want to send the same good through different ports in ASEAN countries, it has to undergo quite stringent procedures and tests,” he said at a press conference to announce the programme for the retreat to be held here on Feb 27 to March 1.

Mustapa said Kota Baharu was chosen as the venue for the retreat to enable Kelantan to be promoted as a progressive trade, investment and tourism destination.

Kota Bharu: Pemukiman Menteri-Menteri Ekonomi ASEAN ke-21 yang berlangsung di sini, dijangka dapat memberi manfaat besar buat sektor ekonomi di negeri ini.

Pengarah Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (MITI) Kelantan, Azran Deraman berkata, program tiga hari yang bermula 27 Februari sehingga 1 Mac ini disertai 10 menteri ekonomi perkumpulan serantau berkenaan.

“Kelantan bertuah dapat menjadi hos bagi program besar ini dan kami jangka penganjuran ini memberi manfaat dan peluang untuk Kelantan menjana ekonomi ke satu peringkat yang lebih baik.

Bincang cara mudahkan perdagangan negara Asean, kata Mustapa

Pemukiman Menteri-Menteri Ekonomi Asean ke-21 hujung minggu ini akan membincangkan kaedah memudahkan lagi perdagangan antara negara-negara Asean.

Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed berkata program tersebut yang menjadi tempat percambahan minda menteri-menteri ekonomi Asean, akan mencari jalan mengurangkan karenah prosedur perdagangan supaya ia lancar dan menjimatkan masa.

“Kita hendak bincang halangan-halangan perdagangan, bagaimana hendak permudahkan lagi perdagangan 2 hala selain membincangkan faedah yang bakal diperolehi.

“Contohnya standard yang berlainan. Kalau kita hendak hantar barang yang sama ke pelabuhan berbeza di negara-negara Asean, ia perlu melalui beberapa prosedur dan ujian yang cukup ketat,” katanya pada sidang akhbar hari ini.

MIDA: TOK BALI SUPPLY BASE OBTAINS ALL APPROVALS

Ready to Attract Oil and Gas Players KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) — Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry today announced that Tok Bali Supply Base Sdn Bhd (TBSB) has obtained the following approvals for its operations:

a. Ministry of Finance approval for its establishment of the Supply Base in Tok Bali, on 7th January 2015.

b. Supply Base & Bonded Warehouse License approval under Section 65 & 65A dated 12th January 2015 from Royal Customs Department.

c. ISPS certificate from Marine Department Malaysia for the period of 5 years starting from 15th January 2015 to 14th  January 2020 for bulk carrier and oil tanker facilities.

d. Supply Base License for leasing and rental activities from PETRONAS dated 21st January 2015. With these approvals, TBSB is now in a position to move on and attract relevant oil & gas industry players to locate their operations in Tok Bali.
