MITI, SCE To Jointly Conduct Talent Development Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) — The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has teamed up with Singapore Corp Enterprise (SCE) to conduct a talent development programme for officers from MITI and its agencies.

Deputy Minister, Datuk Ahmad Maslan, said the eight-month programme, from September 2015 to April 2016, was the first of its kind for Malaysian civil service and would involve 122 officers.

“The platform, called the Economic Policy Leaders programme, would enhance the professionalism and charisma of the officers,” he said after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between MITI Deputy Secretary-General, Datuk Jayasiri Jayasena, and SCE Chief Executive Officer, Kong Wy Mun, here today.

Also present was Temasek Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Benedict Cheong.

Ahmad said the programme would be held in Malaysia and will be followed by a learning visit to Iskandar, Johor and Singapore.

BUDGET ALLOCATION IN 2010

The 2010 Budget, with the theme ‘1 Malaysia, Together We Prosper’, focuses on 3 strategies, namely: • Driving the nation towards a high-income economy; • Ensuring holistic and sustainable development; and • Focusing on well-being of the Rakyat The 2010 Budget allocation totalled RM189.5 billion. The breakdown is as follows: • Operating Expenditure RM138.3 billion (73.0%) • Development Expenditure RM51.2 billion (27.0%) In the Budget announcement, among the niche areas with potentials in moving up the value chain as well as generate higher returns highlighted are tourism, information technology and communication (ICT), finance and Islamic banking, Halal and green technology industries. Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry will attend the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting (MRT) in Sapporo, Japan from 5-6 June 2010. MRT will:
  • discuss ways to give impetus to conclude the Doha Development Agenda(DDA) negotiations;
  • review the international economic and trade environment and APEC’s efforts in mitigating protectionism; 
  • evaluate progress made by APEC’s economies in realising free and open trade and investment in the region, in line with the objectives of the Bogor Goals; 
  • discuss ways to accelerate on-going work programmes and identify new measures to strengthen regional economic integration;
  • exchange views on ways to strengthen long-term growth in the Asia Pacific region remised on balanced, inclusive, sustainable, knowledge-based and secure growth; and

The Institute for Management Development (IMD), World Competitiveness Centre, Lausanne, Switzerland in its latest report World Competitiveness Yearbook 2014 ranked Malaysia at 12th position among 60 economies. This was an improvement as Malaysia was ranked 15th in 2013. This means that Malaysia remains among the top 15 most competitive nations that include USA, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sweden, Germany, Canada, UAE, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Taiwan, Netherlands and Ireland. Malaysian undergraduates to intern in ASEAN

As the chair for ASEAN in 2015, Malaysia has initiated a unique opportunity to engage its future talent, and provide a broader perspective on the role of ASEAN. Over 150 students, government representatives and employers attended the official launching of the MY ASEAN Internship programme at Sunway University on Monday. MY ASEAN Internship is a collaboration between the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), which seeks to increase overall awareness on ASEAN among the youth in Malaysia. The initiative targets 100 high-achieving students in 2015 to intern at one of the leading partner organisations which have business operations in one or more ASEAN countries. Malaysia’s approved investments at record RM236bil

Mustapa says the Government will include customised incentives to attract more foreign investors. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Approved investments climbed for the fourth consecutive year in 2014, rising to a new high of RM235.9bil compared with RM219.4bil recorded in 2013, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

Domestic investments accounted for 72.6% of the total while new investments in the manufacturing sector rose 38% to RM71.9bil.

The approved projects last year would create 178,360 new jobs, Mustapa said.

He said the Government was setting a modest target of RM56bil for approved projects in the manufacturing sector amid a more challenging global economic outlook.

“We are planning to introduce tax and location incentives for principal hub companies,” Mustapa said at an economic event organised by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) yesterday. The Government, he said, would include customised incentives to attract more foreign investors.

PEMANDU Helps Woo Investments, Says Mustapa

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) — The Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) has played a crucial role in attracting more investments, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

“We have done very well in investments, we surpassed our RM148 million per annum target,” he said after the launching of the Government Transformation Programme and Economic Transformation Programme 2014 Annual Report in Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday.

PEMANDU, which introduced the programmes, also monitors their progress.

“Compared to before, the situation is more orderly, systematic and efficient, through the transformation brought about by the programmes,” Mustapa said.

Among others, he said, the government has introduced a number of projects that have resulted in 1.5 million jobs being created, important to young people and enabling the country to achieve full employment.
