Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) dengan kerjasama Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) dan Kerajaan Negeri Pahang akan menganjurkan “Program Transformasi Halal” (PTH), di Gambang, Pahang pada 30 & 31 Julai 2011. Perdana Menteri Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak akan merasmikan majlis penutup pada 31 Julai 2011.   Objektif utama PTH adalah untuk: i) mewujudkan peluang perniagaan berteraskan Halal serta meningkatkan aktiviti keusahawanan. ii) meningkatkan lagi pelaburan domestik di Malaysia melalui penglibatan industri yang lebih agresif iii) mewujudkan sumber baru dalam usaha meningkatkan modal insan serta peluang-peluang berteraskan Halal.   Program ini menampilkan segmen Ekonomi, Pendidikan dan Edutainment (Hiburan berteraskan Pendidikan) di dalam industri Halal. MINISTER’S WORKING VISIT TO BRUSSELS AND LONDON

Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) made a five-day working visit to Brussels and London from 11-15 July 2011 in conjunction with the official visit of Prime Minister to the United Kingdom from 12-15 July 2011.   The visit was successful in further strengthening and enhancing economic, trade and investment relations with Belgium and the United Kingdom. The Minister held bilateral talks with Mr. Karel De Gucht, EU Trade Commissioner on 11 July 2011 in Brussels. Among the topics discussed were Malaysia-European Union Free Trade Agreement negotiations, halal issues and WTO Doha Development Agenda negotiations. DEPUTY MINISTER’S MEETING WITH THE US-ASEAN BUSINESS COUNCIL

The US-ASEAN Business Council conducted its annual Senior Executives Business Mission to Malaysia from 19-21 July 2011 aimed at promoting stronger business-to-business linkages between Malaysian and US multinational companies (MNCs). The delegation comprised of 43 senior business executives representing 20 US MNCs and to date, it is the largest delegation to Malaysia. This visit demonstrated that there is a growing interest by US MNCs to invest in Malaysia. On 20 July 2011, the delegation met Dato’ Jacob Dungau Sagan, Deputy Minister (Industry) and several views on bilateral trade and economic issues were exchanged. Issues related to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) were also discussed. INTERNATIONAL GREENTECH EXHIBITION 2011 (IGEM 2011)

The International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia 2011 (IGEM 2011) will be held from 7-10 September 2011 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). IGEM 2011 is organised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) with the theme “A Green New Deal: The Next Frontier”. This event is endorsed by MITI.   The objectives of IGEM 2011 are to:
  • create awareness among the industry players on the importance of green technology and eco-products for sustainable consumption and production;
  • develop environmental-friendly products and services, and green supply chain and promote the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO²) emissions;
  • showcase creative green technology and services, eco-products and initiatives;
  • foster development of eco-prenuership and green economy; and
  • promote Malaysia as a regional green economy hub for eco-products, and green technology and services.

TRADE AND INVESTMENT MISSION TO TOKYO AND OSAKA

The Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir led a Trade and Investment Mission to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan from 17-21 July 2011. He was accompanied by a 48-member delegation from the various State Governments and private sector representatives. The Mission was a follow-up to the working visit to Osaka by YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry on 29 June 2011. The mission highlighted Malaysia’s support in Japan’s rebuilding efforts following the March 11 natural calamities. In Tokyo, the Deputy Minister had two sessions of Round Table Meetings with captains of industries, Japanese importers as well as trade associations. The Deputy Minister also met with eight Japanese companies to discuss ways in which Malaysian companies can participate in Japan’s rebuilding efforts. The 43rd ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Meeting was officially declared open by H.E. Professor Dr. Boediono, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia in Manado in Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia.Following the opening ceremony, H.E Dr.Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Trade Indonesia chaired the 25th ASEAN Free Trade Area (AEM-AFTA) Council Meeting, the first of the series of meetings that will be held over the next three days. The focus of the discussions by Ministers at the AFTA Council Meeting was on initiatives aimed at further facilitating trade within the region. The initiatives discussed include elimination of non-tariff barriers that impede trade, simplification of rules and procedures of doing business and enhancing use of ICT in customs clearance of goods within the region. My trip to Balikpapan was sparked off by a meeting I had some four months earlier with the city’s personable mayor, Bapak Rizal Effendi in Jakarta at a lunch for editors from Indonesia’s largest newspaper group, Jawa Pos. He convinced me that it is important to promote Malaysia in cities outside Jakarta. At the time I promised him that I’d visit his city the premier commercial hub in the booming natural resource province of East Kalimantan within the next four months. PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION WITH REGARD TO THE INVESTIGATION ON HOT ROLLED COILS IMPORTED INTO MALAYSIA

The investigation on the imports of hot rolled coils (HRC) into Malaysia pursuant to the Safeguards Act 2006 was initiated on 1 May 2011 upon receiving a petition for an investigation submitted by Megasteel Sdn. Bhd. The company claimed that the imports of HRC into Malaysia have increased from 2007 to 2010 and have caused serious injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia.   Pursuant to section 20 of the Safeguards Act 2006, the Government has completed the investigation and has made a preliminary determination that there was an increase in imports by 35% during the period of injury determination i.e., from 1 January 2010 to 30 September 2010. However, the increased in imports have not caused or threaten to cause serious injury to the domestic industry.   Based on the preliminary findings, the Government decided to terminate this investigation on the imports of HRC into Malaysia on 22 August 2011, the day the notice of negative preliminary determination is published in the...

Pelancaran laporan Kedudukan Daya Saing Malaysia (GCR) 2011 -2012 telah berlangsung pada 7 September 2011 bertempat di Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri oleh YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri. Malaysia berada pada kedudukan ke-21 di kalangan 142 buah negara, meningkat lima anak tangga berbanding tahun lepas (GCR 2010-2011: ke-26/139). Pencapaian indeks skor yang lebih tinggi kepada 5.08 (GCR 2010-2011: 4.88 ) berbanding skor maksimum 7 menggambarkan asas ekonomi Malaysia yang kukuh dan perubahan positif dalam persepsi responden.Malaysia mengatasi lima negara yang sebelum ini berada di kedudukan lebih baik iaitu Israel (ke-22), Luxembourg (ke-23), Korea (ke-24), New Zealand (ke-25) dan Emiriah Arab Bersatu (ke-27).
