Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2016 in Davos, Switzerland scheduled from 20th to 23rd of January 2016.

The WEF is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, politicians, academia and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas and issues. The WEF Annual Meeting is held in Davos in January every year.

Malaysia’s participation at Davos is an annual event where key Ministers and several prominent Malaysian corporate leaders who are WEF members are invited to deliberate on current challenges confronting the world economy.

The theme for this year's WEF Annual Meeting is “Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution”. Participants are expected to address the technology revolution and highlight the opportunities it presents and how it impacts government, industry and society.

Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa will participate in several speaking sessions together with a number of high profile and prominent public, private and industry leaders. Besides contributing to several sessions, Y.B. Dato’ Sri is a panelist for the session on “The New Trade Frontier: Trans-Pacific Partnership”. Y.B. Dato’ Sri will also speak on ASEAN issues and the way forward at the session titled “Re-igniting the South East Asia growth story; a Boardroom Discussion on the Future of International Trade and Investment” and WEF Discussion on the New Vision for Agriculture: Advancing the Action Agenda.

In addition to participating in these sessions, Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts to exchange views on the latest developments with regards to trade and investment. Y.B. Dato’ Sri will also be hosting a Network Luncheon with approximately 50 senior corporate executives representing companies with business and investment interests in Malaysia.

Malaysia’s participation in this forum will help to promote the government’s initiative to attract investments as well as to share and learn from the experience and perspectives of other participants, from both public and private sectors, on policy choices and ideas that can contribute towards Malaysia achieving its goal of becoming a high-income nation by 2020.

Malaysia’s participation is also vital to demonstrate our support for the World Economic Forum, as Malaysia looks forward to hosting the 25th World Economic Forum on East Asia Summit 2016. The Summit will provide opportunities to further elevate Malaysia’s global profile.
