PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON PROPOSED REVIEW OF 
THE PROMOTION OF INVESTMENTS ACT (PIA) 1986 
[Act 327]

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is currently in the process of reviewing the Promotion of Investments Act 1986 [Act 327] (PIA).

The PIA was enacted to make provision for promoting, by way of relief from income tax, the establishment and development in Malaysia of industrial, services, agricultural and other commercial enterprises, and for incidental and related purposes.

Under the Act, a company incorporated in Malaysia and engaging in the manufacture of a promoted product or undertaking a promoted activity is eligible for either Pioneer Status or Investment Tax Allowance (ITA).

To further enhance the Act, a comprehensive review of the PIA is being proposed.

In this regard, MITI would like to invite members of the public to provide feedback and suggestions on the proposal to review the PIA. This phase of the consultation process will run from 22 December 2014 to 5 January 2015. Where relevant, the findings of the public consultation will be used to revise the PIA.
