JERLUN, 21 Mac (Bernama) -- Poor infrastructure, especially disruption in water supply could affect Kedah's economic development, said Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.

He said investors would check on the infrastructure of industrial estates besides the availability of the workers before making an investment decision.

"All industries, especially high-technology factories need to have not only continuous water supply but also the water must be of high quality.

"We have to meet the requirement, otherwise companies may wind up operation and move to another country while new ones will shy away," he told reporters after opening a female hostel at Sekolah Menengah Agama Hidayah Islamiah, Ayer Hitam near here on Sunday.

He was commenting on complaints on water disruption in certain areas in the state since the takeover of water distribution in the state by Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada).
