- The Doha Round, officially known as the Doha Development Agenda (DDA), was initiated in November 2001 during the 4th WTO Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar. It marks the most recent round of WTO trade negotiations, aimed at reforming the international trading system by reducing trade barriers and updating trade rules.
- Doha Ministerial Declaration set the mandate for negotiations across approximately 20 trade areas, including agriculture, non-agricultural market access, services, intellectual property, development, environment, trade facilitation, rules, and the Dispute Settlement Understanding. It also outlined decisions to address the challenges faced by developing countries in implementing the WTO agreements.
- The Doha negotiations have progressed incrementally over the years, despite their complexity and diverse member perspectives. Each stage has focused on narrowing differences through interim agreements, with ongoing efforts to find common ground and achieve consensus.
