WTO Notifications

  1. The primary instrument for ensuring transparency in the multilateral trading system is through the filing of notifications made by each member and reviewed by the relevant bodies of the WTO. The transparency obligation requires member governments to report trade measures to the relevant WTO body if their measures might affect other members. Notification requirement under the WTO agreements may vary from one another.

 

  1. The WTO Secretariat has also established multiple online database and information systems to facilitate the access to information with regard to scope and notification obligations, which are developed to cater for specific WTO agreement/decision:

  1. The most comprehensive portal to-date covering all notification obligations under the WTO is the WTO Notification Portal.

 

  1. Malaysia continues to fulfil the transparency and notification obligations under the WTO agreements. The Malaysian notification status since the inception of WTO in 1995 can be accessed here.
  1. The WTO Notifications Portal provides select information on WTO notifications concerning the agreements on goods, services, intellectual property and government procurement:
