Media Release: IAEA Expert Panel Began Work in Kuantan, 30 May 2011

Kuala Lumpur, Monday: The IAEA expert panel's first day's work programme in Kuantan began with meetings with representatives of the State Authority and the related state technical departments. The panel also met with representatives of the various groups including the “concern citizen of Kuantan” led by Kuantan Member of Parliament, Fuziah Salleh. The public hearing continues tomorrow.

Following her submission to the expert panel, MP Fuziah commented that the panel did not include a medical expert in the team.

The expert panel was appointed by the IAEA and comprises experts on health and safety issues related to radiation. IAEA teams have carried out missions of a similar nature in other parts of the world and the Lynas case is not unique.
