Functions

1. Responsible for advancing and safeguarding Malaysia’s positions and national interests in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

2. Coordinate and formulate Malaysia’s strategies and positions on trade and investment issues, business facilitation, economic and technical cooperation and capacity building in APEC forum.

3. Facilitate and monitor Malaysia’s involvement and participation in sectorial issues such as small and medium enterprises, telecommunication, tourism, energy, science and technology, human resource development, women and the economy, health, ocean and fisheries, food security and transportation in APEC forum.

4. National secretariat and coordinator for APEC related-activities and Malaysia’s participation at the annual Senior Officials’ Meetings (SOM), sectoral Ministerial meetings, APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) and APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).

5. Facilitate and coordinate private sector involvement in the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and other APEC related-activities.

6. MITI’s focal point for issues related to international organisations such as Indian Ocean RIM Association (IOR-AC) and Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific (UN-ESCAP).
