KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) will continue with its commitment towards enhancing income through investments and new job opportunities.

This is in line with the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) launched today.

Among its objectives is for the country to achieve a medium high to high income status and subsequently take more effective and practical steps to achieve Vision 2020.

"This is very important for the country to attain a high growth rate compared to last year," said its Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, when met after the launch of the GTP Roadmap by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak here.

He also said that through the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to action upon, MITI hopes to see an increase in investments apart from providing job opportunities for the people.

"Last year our economy contracted with a negative growth rate and through the actions to be taken, we hope to see it increase," he added.

Mustapa said the government was taking a big risk by trying to change through the GTP implementation, while the outcome is also expected to be very high.

"I am confident, if we all focus, we can transform the government. We have no choice, if we do not undertake something radical," he explained.
