Effective 4 August 2014, the importation of 27 tariff lines of iron and steel products (list of products as in Annex A) will be subjected to Certificate of Approval (CoA). This requirement was gazetted under the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) (Amendment) (No.2) Order 2014 on 25 June 2014.

The imposition of CoA on these products is to ensure that imported construction and non-construction materials meet established quality and safety requirements. This requirement was made in consultation with the industry.

Importers of the 27 tariff lines of iron and steel products will need to apply for Certificates of Approval (CoA) from SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. (for non-construction sector) or the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) (for construction sector).
