Trade Policy Review

  1. Surveillance of national trade policies is one of the core activities running throughout the work of the WTO, with Trade Policy Review Mechanism (TPRM) as the epicentre of this work. All WTO members’ trade policies are reviewed, and the frequency of each country’s review varying according to its share of world trade.

  2. General Council also meets as the Trade Policy Review Body to undertake trade policy reviews of members under the TPRM and to consider the Director-General's regular reports on trade policy development.

  3. Malaysia views Trade Policy Review as an useful exercise and a productive platform to facilitate Malaysia’s efforts to continuously improve in areas that have been highlighted by Members for the benefit of trade, investment and environmental sustainability. To-date, Malaysia has undertaken 8 rounds of reviews:

  1. Malaysia has also been actively participating in other members’ trade policy reviews, in line with the objectives of TRPM to promote accountability, predictability and transparency, which are the core values of the multilateral trading system.
