To track the development of global issues and trends, and their impact on Malaysia's trade and industrial development. This includes initiating and undertaking research on relevant areas.
To manage the database and information on trade, investment and industrial development, and coordinate the publications of statistical data and information related to trade and industry.

To facilitate MITI's strategic planning activities and processes which include:
- MITI Strategic Plan;
- Annual Management Brainstorming/Retreat;
- Designing Strategic Framework of Outcome-Based Budgeting (OBB).
- Coordination for Good Regulatory Practice implementation in MITI and Agencies;
- Research and studies.
- To prepare and publish:
Ministry of International Trade and Industry Report;
Quarterly Trade and Economic Information Booklet;
Updates on Trade and Economic Information Booklet on a monthly basis; and
MITI Weekly Bulletin.

To monitor the implementation of policies, strategies and procedure that would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the public and private sector delivery system; and

Functions
To provide an effective and up-to-date support system in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) matters to the various Divisions in MITI;
To design, develop, implement and maintain ICT facilities in an effective and efficient manner to assist in planning and formulation of trade and industry policy;
To study, plan and formulate MITI's ICT requirements to ensure up-to-date technology is being used to support MITI's mission and that it is in line with the Government's vision;
To formulate, plan and implement ICT security infrastructure which complies with the ICT Security Policy Framework and Security Directives prepared by the Chief Government Security Officer;
To provide advisory service on ICT matters and increase ICT awareness amongst MITI officers and staff to help increase their productivity and performance;
To plan, monitor and maintain MITI's portal to ensure that the most relevant and up-to-date information is conveyed.

Functions
The focal point in the implementation of the Strategic Trade Act 2010 (STA) in Malaysia;
Manage and monitor the issuance of export, transit, and transhipment permits and broker certificates of strategic items;
Undertake evaluation exercise and assessment of company Internal Compliance Programmes;
Conduct and coordinate outreach programmes as well as capacity building programmes to industry and Government authorities to create awareness on STA and its obligations;
Engage with international organisations and other economies through capacity-building programmes and regional seminars related to strategic trade management; and
Collaborate with partner agencies under STA for efficient and effective licensing and enforcement procedures to ensure a secure trading environment that contributes to the development and growth of industry, international trade and investments in Malaysia.
