Chongqing to Become a Regional Financial Centre
Chongqing, the largest municipality directly under the control of the central government of the People’s Republic of China, is set to become a regional financial centre by 2015. Currently, the Chongqing Municipal Government provides favourable local and foreign tax policies for foreign investments.
Shanghai Takes Lead In E-Book Development
The development of the e-Book industry in China has transformed Shanghai as a base to spearhead the development of the industry, in particular the digital content sector. Malaysian manufacturers should take full advantage of the e-Reader boom in China to launch suitable products which are competitively priced, but also feature more value-added functions for the Chinese market.
Anti Dumping Duties
On 23 October 2005, the Government of Malaysia imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of polyethylene terepthalate originating in or exported from Chinese Taipei, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Korea and Thailand for five years. A request for an administrative review was received from one of the domestic producers of the product.
Sarawak Domestic Investment Dialogue & Seminar 2010
Sarawak remains among the top five investment destinations in Malaysia, with a total approved investment of RM1.6 billion for 27 projects for the period of January-July 2010. The major sectors that have attracted these investments were in electrical and electronic products, food manufacturing and fabricated metal products.
SME Annual Report 2009/2010: Transformation to the New Economic Model
Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak launched the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Annual Report 2009/10 on 11 October 2010. The highlight of the Report this year is the assessment on the performance of SMEs from 2000 - 2009 based on new time series data from the Department of Statistics, Malaysia, and the recovery of domestic SMEs from the global financial crisis. The Report also details the recent developments on policies and programmes specific for SMEs.
