YAB PM is making an official visit to the Republic of India from today until 23 January 2010. YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of MITI, is the accompanying Minister for the visit. The visit will be to two major cities namely New Delhi (19-21 January 2010) and Chennai (21-23 January 2010).
During the visit to New Delhi, YAB PM will be meeting with H.E. Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the President of India and H.E. Shri Mohd. Hamid Anshari, the Vice President of India. YAB PM and delegation will be having a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Hon. Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India and both leaders are scheduled to witness the signing of several important G2G Memorandum of Understandings and Agreements.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday to accompany Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak who is on a five-day official visit to India, Asia’s third largest economy. On hand to welcome the Malaysian delegation were various Indian dignitaries, including Minister of State for Railway E. Ahmed and India’s High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia, Vijay Gokhale. The main events in New Delhi will be YAB Prime Minister’s keynote address at the Malaysia-India Business Forum, jointly organised by the Associated Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Indian Industry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Among members of the delegation are Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali Rustam, Works Minister, Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor, Human Resources Minister, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam. Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk SK Devamany.

I met a number of top Thai and Malaysian business leaders in my recent trip to Bangkok in the effort to promote greater collaboration as well as to encourage Thai business leaders to invest in Malaysia. Presently, it is noted that there are many Malaysian companies investing in Thailand. Thai investments in Malaysia is limited. This investment imbalance needs to be addressed.
It is encouraging to note that the Thai business leaders have shown high interest in investing in Malaysia. We will receive at least three trade delegations from Thailand within the next three months and expect to see the size of Thailand’s investment in Malaysia to increase accordingly. A delegation of over 120 Thai businessmen will be visiting Malaysia on 28-30 March 2010.
A Malaysia-Thai Business Opportunities Seminar will be held on 29 March 2010 at Renaissance Hotel where MITI, MIDA and MATRADE officials will be briefing the Thai business leaders on investment opportunities in Malaysia.

The other company, S.E.H (Shah Alam) Sdn. Bhd., a Japanese company with local participation, manufactures silicon polished wafers – one of the only four major producers of the product in the world. Since its inception in 1973, the company has invested RM2.8 billion in this business.
Going down to the ground to get first-hand feedback is imperative in the formulation of policies and creation of conducive environment for industries to expand. The issue of natural gas supply, foreign labour policy and shortage of talents in the middle management level were some of the concerns highlighted during my visit. It is my priority now to review the current policies pertaining to investment to ensure Malaysia remains on investors’ radar.

International Trade and Industry Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, will lead a trade and investment delegation to the United States covering Atlanta, Philadelphia and Washington DC from September 17 to 24, 2010 to bolster bilateral economic and trade relations.
He will also attend the Global Services Summit 2010 in Washington DC where he will be among panellists for the Expanding Services Trade and Investment: A Vision for the Asia-Pacific forum.
“This mission marks the government’s continuing efforts to draw more foreign investment from the US. We hope that through such programmes, we can attract more American investors and industry players into Malaysia and boost two-way trade relations,” Dato’ Sri Mustapa said.
“This time around, we will focus on investments from high-technology sectors which have the potential to generate more job opportunities and at the same time create a higher-valued ’spin-off’ effect within the industry.”

MITI Minister attended the Forbes Global CEO Conference 2010 in Sydney, Australia (28-29 September 2010). The conference gathers some of the world’s most successful tycoons, entrepreneurs and global CEO’s under one roof. The host, media mogul Steve Forbes, interviewed Minister and touched on Malaysia’s economic prospects, investment climate and what delegates can look forward in the next conference which will be held in Kuala Lumpur next year. Earlier, the Minister briefed members of the Autralia-Malaysia Business Council about investment opportunities in Malaysia. Representatives from Australian companies were also present at the session. The Minister also took the opportunity to meet Malaysian businessmen and students in Australia during his visit there.
