Malaysia-China Trade To Rise To US$110 Billion In 2015, Says Matrade
November 18, 2015 , by vox vox

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) — Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) expects total trade between Malaysia and China to increase to US$110 billion (US$1 = RM4.17) this year from US$102 billion last year.

Matrade Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud said the increase would be driven by a commitment made by both nations to increase two-way trade to US$160 billion by 2017.

“Despite the current economic challenges, China remains our important trading partner whereby during the first eight months of this year, our trade with China increased 9.6 per cent to RM147.55 billion.

“Our exports to China rose 9.3 per cent to RM65.17 billion while imports rose 9.8 per cent to RM82.18 billion,” he told a press conference after officiating the “Leveraging on Renminbi to Enhance Exports to China” seminar here Monday.

The half-day seminar was organised by Matrade as part of its effort to encourage local companies to use renminbi in their trade with China...

Next round of industrial revolution
October 15, 2015 , by admin2

E-commerce is another avenue to grow businesses, and both Malaysian and Chinese SMEs are taking advantage of it.

THE 12th China-Asean Expo (Caexpo) in Nanning, Guangxi province concluded on Monday (Sept 21), after four days of trading and business matching.

A billboard near the venue advertised: “You are just one handshake away from the market of 1.9 billion people,” referring to the combined population of 1.3 billion from China and 620 million from 10 Asean countries.

The Malaysian pavilion was the busiest at the Caexpo.

Visitors thronged the hall for the food and beverages, health and wellness products, lifestyle products and other services offered by the exhibitors.

While goods changed hands and meetings between potential partners took place under the Jalur Gemilang hanging from the hall ceiling, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were encouraged to give e-commerce a try.

International Trade and Industry Minister II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, who opened the...

CHINA'S FOREX RESERVES REACHES US$2.13 TRILLION
July 6, 2015 , by admin2
China’s foreign exchange reserves stood at US$2.13 trillion as at end June 2009, indicating that China’s economy is on track for recovery. Asian Development Bank noted that the rapid growth in China’s foreign exchange reserves was led by the rising trade surplus and by the confidence of overseas investors as they buy up China’s assets. China’s trade surplus in the first half of 2009 was US$96.94 billion. The stock and property markets remained bullish. China’s shares have rallied 70% from the beginning of the year. Property sales surged 53% to reach 1.58 trillion Yuan (US$231.3 million) as investors took advantage of low interest rates. China’s property and equity markets are closely watched by international speculative fund holders. It is believed that the bullish property and equity markets are among the reasons contributing to the surge in China’s foreign exchange reserves.

CHINA ADOPTS ‘GREEN PROCUREMENT’ STRATEGY
July 6, 2015 , by admin2
China’s State Council (Cabinet) has directed its local governments to buy more energy-efficient, eco-friendly and energy-saving products in its public purchases. This latest directive is pursuant to the stricter implementation of China’s ‘Government Purchase Law’ which contains a compulsory green procurement list comprising nine types ofproducts – air conditioners, fluorescent lamps, televisions, electric water heaters, computers, printers, computer monitors, urinals and toilet pans and water nozzles. China has targeted local authorities as a prime mover to achieve the nation’s overall objective of ‘cleaner’ economic growth: - local authorities, by virtue of their relatively larger spending power, have the capacity to implement utilization and supply of green products to their projects and programmes to help reduce any negative environmental impact; - environmentally improved products are often niche products and increased demand by local authorities will help...

ENHANCING INTERNATIONAL USE OF RENMINBI
July 3, 2015 , by admin2
China has launched several pilot Renminbi programmes over the years and the pace has quickened since the onset of the global financial crisis. Programmes introduced by China in the last 12 months, intended to enhance the international use of the Renminbi, included: • yuan-denominated cross-border trade settlement and trade financing; • yuan bonds issued by policy banks; and • currency swaps. Recently, China launched a Renminbi sovereign bond issue worth 6 billion yuan (US$878.5 million) in Hong Kong and this marked the key milestone in the internationalisation of the Renminbi. Holders of the Treasury bonds will enjoy guaranteed interest of between 2.25% to 3.3% depending on the terms subscribed. The sale of the bonds is expected to end on 20 October 2009. Given the impact of the global financial crisis, prudent investors are increasingly favouring demand for sovereign bonds issued by a strong economy like China, compared with the corporate bond market. Prior to the...

Malaysian Businesses Must Capitalise On Competitive Edge In Service Sectors
July 2, 2015 , by admin2
Malaysian businesses should capitalise on their competitive edge in the service sectors to tap preferential trade facilities under the China-Asean Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), said International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir. “I see there is less competition in the services sector as it is totally different from other sectors..it very much depends on quality. “I think Malaysians have certain inherent advantages that we should make full use of,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the “2010 FOCAFTA” seminar here on Thursday. Mukhriz said there was massive construction going on in many parts of China where Malaysian companies could provide architecture or design services to China. “China can look up to our capablities in this aspect. This is one area we can pursue further,” he said, adding that China was a huge market which also offered business opportunities in several other sectors for Malaysians. Mukhriz said if Malaysian businesses...
