October 15, 2015 , by admin2

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) — The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) needs to build an ecosystem that supports enterprise creation and improves the environment for innovation, as well as facilitates financial inclusion for start-ups, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Ahmad Maslan said.

He said Malaysia recognises the vital role of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in bringing new ideas to the market and fostering innovation.

Ahmad highlighted Malaysia’s initiatives for modernisation and automation of MSMEs, including focusing on the Soft Loan Scheme for Automation & Modernisation (SLSAM).

SLSAM seeks to encourage MSMEs in Malaysia to embrace automation and modernisation of their businesses.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18: The success of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is crucial for ASEAN to be truly integrated, says Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Lee Chee Leong.

Lee said resilient SMEs should start to have a global mind-set.

“They should explore opportunities from liberalisation under the ASEAN Economic Community and expand their trade and investments,” he said at the launch of I-Score credit risk management tool.

The I-Score is co-developed by Rating Agency Malaysia Credit Info Sdn Bhd (RAMCI) with global information services company, Experian plc.

The tool, designed for financial institutions, business corporations and consumers, provides a comprehensive credit report ranking consumers, business partners and potential investors for credit risk.

Lee said SMEs could now use the tool to assess the strategies for their businesses if they intended to expand them.

“This will help address the challenges faced by SMEs to obtain...

June 16, 2015 , by admin2
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) — The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) expects total export surplus for the halal industry this year to exceed the RM32 billion achieved in 2013. Deputy Minister Datuk Hamim Samuri said there is massive untapped growth potential the global halal industry which local Halal players should tap. “The weakening ringgit can also be a key driver to the exports as importers can buy products at lower prices,” he told reporters after the soft launch of Halal Ingredients Asia 2015 here today. Meanwhile, Halal Development Industry Corporation Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin expressed hope the number of local players of certified Halal ingredient manufacturers would increase this year. “To date, we have about 200 Halal manufacturing companies certified by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), 70 per cent of which are multi-national companies. “We hope more Malaysian companies, including...

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) — Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) move to reduce electricity tariffs is consistent with the government’s aspirations and in accordance with international rates, said Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. According to TNB, its average tariff will be reduced from 38.53 sen/kWh to 36.28 sen/kWh. National Export Council to plan a roadmap to boost Malaysia’s competitiveness
June 15, 2015 , by admin2
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Export Council has planned a roadmap to boost Malaysia’s competitiveness in the international market. The government-backed body held its first meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to put in place the comprehensive roadmap to enhance the nation’s exports amid uncertainties in the global market. The council, which was set up in December, said the planned initiatives will address the gaps in the export eco-system. “It will deepen market access for exporters through market linkers, industry specialists and specialised promotion programmes,” it said in a statement. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will also be included and the resilient ones will be “internationalised” through customised programmes such as Go-Ex. The contribution by SMEs to export is still relatively small at 16.9 per cent and is earmarked to grow to a target of 25 per cent by 2020. The council also intends to ramp up exports through...
