
BEIJING, Nov 11 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today attended the second day of the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Meeting (AELM) with a retreat session at the main venue, Yangi Lake.
Today’s session started with a leaders’ welcoming ceremony hosted by China’s President Xi Jinping and later adjourned for a photo session.
The leaders of the 21 Apec economies, including US President Barack Obama and Russia President Vladimir Putin, attended the retreat chaired by Xi.
Yesterday, Najib, accompanied by Malaysia’s Special Envoy to China, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin and Malaysia senior government officials, held a series of bilateral meetings.
The bilateral meetings, among others, included deepening ties with China and Russia, as well as, exploring new and innovative ideas to further enhance cooperation among Apec economies.
Najib, who is also Finance Minister held a separate meetings with Xi, later followed by meetings with Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, CY Leung and China’s Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
With China, Najib was pleased the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the People’s Bank of China and Bank Negara Malaysia will further strengthen financial and economic relations.
In the afternoon, the premier had met two other heads of economies, namely President of Russia Vladimir Putin and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.
At the retreat session today, the leaders, among others, are expected to channel attention towards next generation mesures that advance regional economic intergration, promote economic reform and innovative development and strenghten infrastructure investment and comprehensive connectivity.
Meanwhile, in the leaders’ spouse programme, Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor joined other first ladies visiting the Summer Palace where she will be ushered to the holding room to meet with Madam Peng Liyuan, wife of Xi.
Spouses will also walk past the Renshou Hall and board the boat at Wenchang Dock on KunMing Lake.
They later will proceed to Dehe Palace to watch a cultural performane and later walk along Long Ailse (around 120 meters) and then take the golf cart to PaiYun palace.
In the afternoon, the spouses will depart Summer palace to have lunch at the AMAN Guest House.
