WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM (WEF) EAST ASIA 2014 AND
TRADE & INVESTMENT MISSION TO MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES,
21 – 23 MAY 2014
YB Dato? Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia in Manila and lead a Trade and Investment Mission to the Philippines from 21st to 23rd of May 2014.
The WEF is an independent international organization based in Switzerland that is committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, politician, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional
and industry agendas and issues. The WEF organises the highly successful WEF Annual Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January every year.
The WEF East Asia Forum is a regional extension of the WEF Annual Forum. The first WEF East Asia was held 23 years ago. Manila is hosting this event for the first time.
The events in World Economic Forum: East Asia provided opportunities to further elevate the stature of Malaysia as one of the preferred destination for trade, investment and tourism in the region. Malaysia would have the opportunity to showcase her experience in transforming the country through Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) with a preview of Chairmanship of ASEAN
in 2015.
The theme for this year?s Forum in Manila is „Leveraging Growth for Equitable Progress. The Forum will focus on ASEAN?s journey towards the realization of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, the Post
AEC 2015 Agenda and its impact on the East Asia Region. YB Dato? Sri Mustapa Mohamed had been invited to participate and contribute in the following sessions :
Public Session : a Panelist: “Connect on Trade: Lifting Barriers to Growth” (Live Webcast) on the 22nd May;
Private Session: Special Guest: “ASEAN Partnership Programme for East Asia: Advancing the ASEAN Economic Community through Public-Private Collaboration” on 22nd May; and
Private Session: Special Guest: “AEC 2015: What Next?” on the 23rd May.
The program for YB Dato? Sri during the Trade and Investment Mission includes a bilateral meeting with Honourable Gregory L. Domingo, current Secretary of Trade and Industry of Philippines, one-to-one business meetings with large Philippines companies and MNCs, Roundtable meetings with the Philippine-Malaysia Business Council and the Philippines business community.
The Minister of International Trade and Industry will also lead the Malaysian delegation of businesses that are looking towards enhancing their presence or making breakthrough in Philippines. They are scheduled to meet with their Philippines counterparts in seeking opportunities for co-operation in trade and investments.
The Trade and Investment Mission is a follow-up to the official visit of the President of the Philippines, His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III to Malaysia on 27 and 28 February 2014.
