SINTOK, 20 October 2012 – Hari MITI dan Agensi-agensi bersama Pelajar IPTA/IPTS was officially launched today by YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry at Dewan Mu’adzam Shah, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah Darul Aman.
The Event was organised by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and its Agencies with the objective of creating awareness among university and college (IPTA / IPTS) students on the roles and functions of MITI and its Agencies namely MATRADE, MIDA, MIDF, SME Corp., SME Bank, HDC and MAI.
With the collaboration of various universities and colleges in Kedah, the Event had attracted almost 3000 students mainly from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur-Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL-MSI).
The event that featured a special presentation “Malaysia towards Global Competitiveness” by YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir, had begun with a breakfast session attended by the Deputy Minister and 200 student leaders and student representatives from UUM and other neighbouring universities and colleges. MITI had also conducted a briefing session on the roles and functions of MITI and its Agencies.
One of the event highlights, were career guidance talks for young graduates that was done in collaboration with the TalentCorp. Representatives from Collaborative Research in Engineering Science and Technology Centre (CREST), Human Architecture Technologies Sdn Bhd. as well as Agilent, Altera and INTEL delivered talks and held interactive sessions on career building from the perspectives of both domestic and international companies.
In line with encouraging creative and innovative ideas, MITI is organising an essay writing competition. A briefing on this was held during the event by YBhg. Datuk Mohd Razali Hussain, Director General of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC). Among the prizes to be won is a three-week attachments with MITI and its agencies’ local and regional offices. Today’s Hari MITI was also attended by YBhg. Prof Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, Vice Chancellor of UUM; Encik Mohd Ridzal Sheriff, Deputy Secretary General of MITI; heads of MITI’s Agencies and some local leaders.
