The Industry Excellence Awards or Anugerah Kecemerlangan Industri (AKI) is the highest recognition given by the Government to companies for their exceptional achievements in organisational excellence, quality improvements and export excellence. The recognition given by the Government to some extent has assisted the winners in promoting their products/services in the export market.
AKI was first introduced in 1991 and this year the AKI Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 24 March 2011 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The Honourable Prime Minister presented the awards to the winners. The Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) won the Prime Minister’s Award. Since its inception, a total of 2,938 companies have participated in AKI. For this year, 228 participating companies have undergone an in depth evaluation by the technical committees. The winner for the Prime Minister’s Award was selected among the winners of the six main categories. A total of 30 companies received awards according to their respective categories (as in annex), while 26 companies received certificates of excellence.
Three companies received awards based on annual sales turnover of more than RM100 million. The companies are:
i. Proton Holdings Berhad
ii. Robina Flooring Sdn. Bhd.
iii. Iris Corporation Berhad
iv. MM Vitaoils Sdn. Bhd.
