
Today marks the last day of Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat as the Secretary General of the Ministry of International Trade & Industry. Tan Sri Rahman, a charming and charismatic boss, has served in this very Ministry for more than 30 years, in the areas of trade and industry.
In brief, Tan Sri Rahman, an economics graduate from the University of Malaya, started his career in 1975 in MITI. He has served the Ministry in various positions, including Deputy Trade Commissioner (New York), Director of Trade in Taipei, Trade Commissioner and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Director of Export Promotion Bureau in MATRADE, Director of Industries, Senior Director of Policy and Industry Services Division and Deputy Secretary-General (Industry), MITI.
Tan Sri Rahman has represented Malaysia in a number of international meetings, negotiations, conferences and symposiums. He has also contributed towards formulating, implementing and monitoring policies and programs on international trade and industrial growth. He is an honorary member of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations and a Malaysian Leader for the High Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration. In addition, he serves as a member to various establishments, such as the Malaysia International Islamic Finance Committee and Board Member of Johor Corporation Berhad (J-Corp) and Sarawak’s Regional Economic Development Authority (RECODA). He was also a panel member of the Search Committee of the Prime Minister’s Innovation Award 2010.
In his handover speech this morning, Tan Sri Rahman pledged to continue serving the country & thanked MITIans for their support and team work.
