MITI will be organising the One District One Industry Showcase 2009 or Showcase Satu Daerah Satu Industri (SDSI) on 11-13 December at Melaka International Trade Center (MITC), Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
The objective of the SDSI are:
i) To facilitate the marketing and sourcing of high-quality SDSI products/services in the local and global market;
ii) To create public awareness that SDSI products/services are of exceptional quality;
iii) To enhance networking among SDSI entrepreneurs as well as to establish new business alliances in trade, joint ventures and business investments with local and international traders.
Central to the SDSI programme is the concept of commercially developing distinct products/services which are peculiar to a particular enclave or district. These products or services which bear an identifiable imprint of a particular district can then be further developed to draw tourists to the area. The programme also focuses on the development of a creative and innovative society while fostering a harmonious community through socio-economic activities.
SDSI started in 2006 and has been the largest annual event for the gathering of local products and services from all districts in Malaysia. SDSI Showcase 2008 saw the active participation of 538 exhibitors from all over Malaysia and attracted a total of 63,319 visitors. Exhibitors in SDSI reported immediate sales of approximately RM1million and sales under negotiation of more than RM47.5million.
SDSI Showcase 2009 other than featuring an exhibition of goods and services from various districts in all states in Malaysia, will also include Menu Malaysia, a promotion of local signature dishes from 13 states of Malaysia, an Entrepreneurial Seminar revolving around the theme “Cultivating Global Entrepreneurs Towards 1Malaysia”, a Business Matching session among SDSI entrepreneurs with buyers, distributors, marketing agents, importers, hypermarkets and other business communities in Malaysia and overseas as well as stage performances and games.
