KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) — Malaysian companies achieved RM52.75 million sales at the FOODEX Japan Trade Fair held in Makuhari Messe in Chiba, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said Monday.
Matrade said confectionery products contributed 38.14 per cent of the total sales, followed by beverages products (30.13 per cent) and food ingredients (14.26 per cent).
Malaysia’s national pavilion, comprising 24 Malaysian companies, received 1,790 trade enquiries from importers, distributors and procurement centres from Japan, China and South Korea throughout the four-day fair from March 4, the national trade promotion agency said in a statement.
Matrade Tokyo Trade Commissioner Kua Kiat Chye said Malaysian food and beverages products are widely accepted in Japan due to its assurance on standard and quality.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) — The Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE) programme is expected to begin in July, said SME Corp Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Datuk Habsah Hashim.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Saturday announced the allocation of RM10 million for the programme, which is aimed at helping young Bumiputeras to start a business.
Habsah said the programme is still at the discussion stage, and expressed hope that the plans could be finalised soon.
TUBE is managed by SME Corp and the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI), and involves three phases before the participants are given a RM15,000 launching grant.
Habsah said the first phase is about character building through physical and mental training, while phase two is a workshop on business fundamentals and the final phase covers business implementation.

On 20 May 2014, the Government of Malaysia received a petition from a domestic producer requesting an imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of HRC, Chequered Coils and P&O Coils. The petitioner alleges that imports of HRC, Chequered Coils and P&O Coils originating in or exported from the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea are being dumped into Malaysia at a price much lower than the price in the domestic market of the alleged countries. KUALA LUMPUR: The National Export Council has planned a roadmap to boost Malaysia’s competitiveness in the international market.
The government-backed body held its first meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to put in place the comprehensive roadmap to enhance the nation’s exports amid uncertainties in the global market.
The council, which was set up in December, said the planned initiatives will address the gaps in the export eco-system.
“It will deepen market access for exporters through market linkers, industry specialists and specialised promotion programmes,” it said in a statement.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will also be included and the resilient ones will be “internationalised” through customised programmes such as Go-Ex.
The contribution by SMEs to export is still relatively small at 16.9 per cent and is earmarked to grow to a target of 25 per cent by 2020.

KUALA LUMPUR: The International Trade and Industry Ministry is organising the Malaysia Entrepreneurship Forum 2015 (MEF) for local entrepreneurs seeking to grow their businesses.
To be held at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre on Thursday, the forum is aimed at providing information about government efforts to help entrepreneurs go global.
It will also feature successful entrepreneurs such as Cliff Ink Sdn Bhd’s Michelle Lau Sook Yee and Habibul Ajmi Manggar from Perniagaan Orang Kampung Sdn Bhd, who will share their experiences.
