Highlights of the Malaysia-International Chinese Business Forum (MICBF)

The Malaysia-International Chinese Business Forum (MICBF), held from 1-3 December with the theme “Forging Connectivity, Sharing Prosperity”, attracted more than 700 local and foreign business leaders. The main objectives of MICBF were to: • promote Malaysia as the preferred destination for foreign investment; and • facilitate investment partnership in promoted activities and projects. MITI Minsiter officiated the forum and led a special dialogue session with participants from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. It must be noted that Malaysia’s trade with these four economies amounted to US$92.6 billion in 2009 , making up one third of the country’s total trade . Among the issues discussed include improving the implementation of  Malaysian foreign labour policy, visas for expatriates and foreign professionals and investment in Terengganu and East Malaysia. MALAYSIA INKS ECONOMIC PACT WITH THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

On 28 April 2011, Malaysia signed an agreement with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to expand and deepen the existing economic and trade cooperation. The agreement was inked by Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed and Chinese Minister of Commerce, H.E. Chen Deming and witnessed by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak and Chinese Premier H.E. Wen Jiabao who was on official visit to Malaysia. The agreement allows for better coordination of cooperation projects that involve various Ministries and Government agencies. It will help to reinforce and complement the existing engagements established by the respective ministries of both countries. One of the main features of the agreement is the establishment of an Economic Cooperation Working Group (ECWG) which consists of Government officials of both countries. INITIATION OF INVESTIGATION ON ANTI-DUMPING CONCERNING IMPORTS OF STEEL WIRE RODS ORIGINATING IN OR EXPORTED FROM CHINESE TAIPEI, THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA, THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA, THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY The Government of Malaysia has received from a domestic producer a petition for the imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of steel wire rods. The petitioner alleges that imports of steel wire rods originating in or exported from Chinese Taipei, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Turkey are being brought into Malaysia at a price much lower than the price in the domestic market of the alleged countries. The petitioner claims that this is causing material injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia. MISI pelaburan dan perdagangan Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed ke Bangladesh dan India selama enam hari bermula hari ini, bakal mengukuhkan lagi hubungan erat antara Malaysia, Bangladesh dan India. Misi kali ini tertumpu kepada sektor-sektor atau peluang-peluang baharu yang boleh diterokai oleh pelabur Malaysia di negara terbabit, selain usaha menarik khususnya syarikat-syarikat India melabur atau menanam modal di Malaysia. Mustapa On Trade And Investment Mission To India

NEW DELHI, Jan 14 (Bernama) — Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed is leading a three-day trade and investment mission to India starting on Wednesday and is scheduled to participate at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit 2015. The minister is set to have several business meetings with potential investors from India as well as Malaysian businesses that already have an establishment here. Mustapa will deliver a special address at a seminar entitled “India-Malaysia Trade and Economic Cooperation in the Context of Indian Economy Dynamism and India’s Act East Policy” in New Delhi organised by Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS).
