Asean Economic Ministers’ Retreat To Discuss Trade Facilitation: Mustapa

KOTA BAHARU, Feb 24 (Bernama) — The 21st ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat this weekend will discuss ways to facilitate trade among the region’s member nations, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. “We want to discuss trade barriers, how to facilitate two-way trade besides the benefits to be gained. “With different standards, for example, if we want to send the same good through different ports in ASEAN countries, it has to undergo quite stringent procedures and tests,” he said at a press conference to announce the programme for the retreat to be held here on Feb 27 to March 1. Mustapa said Kota Baharu was chosen as the venue for the retreat to enable Kelantan to be promoted as a progressive trade, investment and tourism destination. “Through the programme, Kelantan will be better known and this will bring a positive impact to the state in terms of tourism, trade and investment, while opening a wider market in ASEAN countries...

Penang ranks third in investments in 2014, after Johor and Sarawak

GEORGE TOWN (Feb 28): Penang moved up one notch to the third spot with the highest number of approved investments in the country last year, after Johor and Sarawak. Penang approved local and foreign investments totalling RM8.2 billion in 2014, a 109% jump from the previous year. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state approved foreign investments amounting to RM5.1 billion and RM3.04 billion in  domestic investments last year. “In 2013, our total proposed capital investment was RM3.9 billion and we were ranked No. 4,” he told a news conference to announce the investment figures released by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) yesterday. “This (2014) is good results, although it is more important that we receive quality investments. “It should not be typical industries but those that can add value, be high-tech and are knowledge intensive,” Lim said. ASEAN Countries To Continously Reduce Non-tariff Measures

KOTA BAHARU, March 1 (Bernama) — Member countries will continuously reduce non-tariff measures and non-tariff barriers for freer intra ASEAN trade, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed Sunday. Mustapa said 69 non-tariff measures had been identified, and of this, 45 had been resolved. “We have decided to make more progress. We have identified many more and we will try to resolve those,” he told a press conference on the final day of the 21st ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat (AEM) here. The Economic Ministers also proposed to form a mechanism to deal with non-tariff measures in facilitating the movement of businesses within the region. “We are looking at a formal platform. We are talking to the European Union, to see how we can share best practices with them,” said Mustapa. KOTA BHARU: Negara anggota ASEAN akan terus mengurangkan langkah-langkah dan halangan bukan tarif untuk perdagangan yang lebih bebas di dalam pertubuhan serantau itu, kata Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed hari ini. Kota Bharu: Negara anggota Asean akan membincangkan lebih terperinci mengenai cadangan penubuhan Bank Mikro Asean bagi membantu perusahaan mikro mengembangkan perniagaan masing-masing. Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (Miti), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed berkata, Bank Mikro itu dijangka dapat memberi kemudahan kepada perusahaan mikro yang ingin meluaskan perniagaan dalam rantau Asean. Beliau berkata, operasi Bank Mikro Asean itu akan berlainan dengan bank sedia ada dalam kalangan negara anggota, namun ia akan mempraktikkan garis panduan yang sama.“Cadangan ini sudah diusulkan menerusi Majlis Penasihat Perniagaan ASEAN (ABAC). TNB Appoints Nine Strategic Suppliers

KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) — Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has appointed nine strategic suppliers from its Bumiputera Vendor Development Programme launched in 1994. Chief procurement officer, Syed Abu Hanifah Syed Alwi, said the period of appointment of the companies was for two years or equivalent to a procurement cycle. “After today’s appointments, we will continue to evaluate the performance of the nine companies. If they perform at the expected level then the period of appointment would be extended again. “In terms of time limit, if they continue to meet TNB’s requirements then I can say that the appointments would not have a set period of time,” he said after the appointment ceremony here today. Abu Hanifah said the selection of vendors as a strategic suppliers was based on the company’s merit, performance and qualifications. KUALA LUMPUR, 7 April (Bernama) — Syarikat Jerman mengharapkan Komuniti Ekonomi ASEAN (AEC) 2015 sebagai visi ekonomi serantau yang bersepadu apabila ia terus meninjau peluang pelaburan di sini. Duta Jerman ke Malaysia Holger Michael berkata syarikat Jerman menunjukkan minat yang semakin meningkat di ASEAN secara umumnya, dan Malaysia khususnya sejak ia mengambil alih jawatan pengerusi ASEAN pada tahun ini. Kuala Lumpur: Organisasi Perdagangan Dunia (WTO) menjangkakan Agenda Perbangunan Doha atau Perbincangan Doha dapat dimuktamadkan dalam masa terdekat apabila ahlinya mula menunjukkan keterbukaan untuk menerima isi kandungan dalam perbincangan itu yang tertangguh sejak 2008 di Doha. WTO yang dianggotai 161 negara termasuk Malaysia antara ahli yang terbabit dalam Agenda Pembangunan Doha bagi membincangkan pelbagai isu dagangan antarabangsa antaranya akses pasaran, perundangan WTO, isu pembangunan, kemudahan dagangan dan perkara lain. Namun, ia ditangguhkan pada 2008 apabila terdapat beberapa perkara yang tidak dipersetujui ahlinya. Country’s third O&G supply base to get RM100m investment

KUALA LUMPUR: TB Supply Base Sdn Bhd (TBSB), which has received interest from over 100 companies to utilise its facilities in Tok Bali, Kelantan, will spend RM100 million in 2015 for civil works and to build facilities such as additional warehouses, Customs and Immigration building, new offices, canteen, rigging loft, crew jetty and helipad.

TBSB is ultimately owned by Kelantan royalty Tengku Rozanna Petri and Tengku Rozlynda Petri Tengku Mohd Nasrun, through Forlenza Holdings Sdn Bhd. Forlenza through Matrix Reservoir Sdn Bhd, owns a 99.99% stake in TBSB. TBSB’s directors include Tengku Datuk Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz (also the chairman), Tengku Rozanna Petri and Shankar Ray Shi-Wan.

TBSB is a logistics hub located in Tok Bali, Kelantan specifically catered to providers of support services to the offshore oil and gas industry. It has invested RM90 million to date since June 2014, for facilities like warehouses, revamp works and wharf. TBSB is located on a 328 acres site.

Bincang cara mudahkan perdagangan negara Asean, kata Mustapa

Pemukiman Menteri-Menteri Ekonomi Asean ke-21 hujung minggu ini akan membincangkan kaedah memudahkan lagi perdagangan antara negara-negara Asean.

Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed berkata program tersebut yang menjadi tempat percambahan minda menteri-menteri ekonomi Asean, akan mencari jalan mengurangkan karenah prosedur perdagangan supaya ia lancar dan menjimatkan masa.

“Kita hendak bincang halangan-halangan perdagangan, bagaimana hendak permudahkan lagi perdagangan 2 hala selain membincangkan faedah yang bakal diperolehi.

“Contohnya standard yang berlainan. Kalau kita hendak hantar barang yang sama ke pelabuhan berbeza di negara-negara Asean, ia perlu melalui beberapa prosedur dan ujian yang cukup ketat,” katanya pada sidang akhbar hari ini.
